I am SO far behind on my blogging schedule. I can't seem to spend more than 5 days in a row at home before having to travel elsewhere. I've finally been home and in my own bed for a few days, starting to get back into a routine and am craving to get some blog posts up and running!
Back in April I was lucky enough to go on a Norweigan Cruise with my family. We spent 7 days and 6 nights on the Norweigan Escape, traveling to St. Thomas, Tortola and Nassau. I love cruise life - it's so me. If you've been to an all-inclusive, it's very similar but also very different. You get the convenience of a traveling hotel! Meaning you just hop off the ship on port days, and then head back to to the ship without having to worry about accommodations, your meals or your drinks! It's a great way to see many places in one shot. It has a slightly more luxurious feel than an all-inclusive, and a beach is usually just a port stop away.
This ship was brand spankin' new. I spent most of my time at the buffet because.... unlimited eggs benny, come on.
and also at the adults only pool area because.... screaming kids, need I say more?
It was also fully equipped with an on-ship waterfall, multiple waterslides (which I conquered btw) wine bar, tapas restaurant, mojito bar and SO many other crazy cool things.
First stop! St.Thomas
My parents had been raving about St. Thomas for years now, so I was really excited to explore. We went on the St. Thomas skyride which is a must do if you're there! It's a gondola ride into the mountains that gives you the most spectacular view. Fully equipped with a bar, restaurant and most importantly .. wifi. That is definitely a huge plus to cruise life, there is NO access to internet unless you want to pay $300+ for the week. No exaggeration. So to be able to shut down for the whole week felt AH-mazing.
We definitely wanted to hit up a beach, but we're not one for crowds or overly tourist areas (said the tourist) so we asked around and found out that Morning Star beach was only five minutes away but definitely wasn't a top spot for tourists so we decided to go there!
It was such a good choice, dead silent and gorgeous views.
Second Stop! Tortola.
UGH, Tortola. I need to go back. Soon. I completely fell in love.
We really struggled with trying to decide what to do because Tortola is a fairly new cruise stop and there aren't a whole lot of amenities around just yet. We decided to ask about getting a private tour of the island, and surprisingly they were more than happy to do so. We had such a great cab driver who lived there his entire life, tell us all about the history of the island. I learned so much in two hours, and it left me wanting more. The most noteworthy thing is the insane views, our entire drive was at a 90 degree angle up hill with twists and turns and everywhere you looked was just drool worthy views. We took a quick pit stop at the beach and then headed back to the ship.
Our third stop was Nassau, but we really didn't do much since we'd all been here before. We got off the ship just to do some shopping but were very unsuccessful so we just headed back to the ship!
There was so much to do ON the ship, that sometimes it was hard to get off of it! We were there for an entire week and there are still so many things that we didn't get around to doing.
